oct 1, 1981 - Tempest
Description:
The arcade game Tempest releases to massive popularity. The game features high action shooting and an impressive visual design, which caused some players to feel headaches or nausea. Additionally, there was a shortage of game cabinets for Tempest, since they were one of the cabinets used by the F.B.I. as surveillance, which led to them being taken or removed from arcades after the F.B.I. Arcade Raids.
Many believe that those who claim to remember Polybius may instead be remembering Tempest, due to the visual design, the gameplay, the long lines from the shortage, the limited amount of cabinets in an area and the possibility of seeing the F.B.I. collect a camera or microphone from the cabinet.
