mar 24, 1911 - Triangle Shirtwaist Factory

Description:

It all started in New York City where there was a factory owned by Max Blanck and Isaac harris. The factory had women work in cramped space sewing. They also had teenage girls that did not speak english and they would work 12 hours a day. They would also have no days off. The bad thing was that this building was not super safe. It had high levels of floors and it was super tight. It all started in a rag bin where the fire started. They tried to stop it but they couldn't because it was spreading too fast. People started to panic so people started to go toward the elevators but they could only hold 12 people. It was going well until the elevator caught on fire. Also the girls that went down that stairs were locked at the bottom so they got burned alive. Forty nine workers burned alive or suffocated by smoke,36 were dead in the elevator and 58 died from jumping out the window onto the sidewalks and some died from injuries. In total 146 died that day.
