The arcade laserdisc game Cube Quest is released in North America. It was the first arcade game to include real-time 3D computer graphics.

Some believe that those who recall the existence of Polybius are instead thinking of Cube Quest. The game had a unique visual style that is similar to many interpretations of what Polybius is described as, was prone to visual glitches that could have been interpreted as subliminal messages, would often have being looking at the internals to repair it, and would randomly vanish from arcades because upkeep was too expensive.
