The Last Starfighter releases in the U.S. The story is about a teenager who is recruited to help aliens after being monitored by them while playing a secretly developed arcade game.

Some believe that the general idea of a game being monitored for information by an outside group could've been inspired by the Polybius legend, however there is no evidence of the story of Polybius existing this far back. It is more likely that The Last Starfighter inspired the Polybius story, not the other way around.
