jan 1, 539 - Cyrus the Great
Description:
Cyrus the Great was the first Persian king and invaded the city of Babylon in 539 B.C.. This is significant because he then decided to free all the slaves, establish basic racial equality and declare that everyone should have the right to choose their own religion. These declarations were then engraved on a clay tablet that is now considered to be the first charter of human rights.
