sep 7, 1927 - First Television
Description:
Philo T. Farnsworth was in his laboratory at 202 Green Street in San Francisco on September 7th, 1927, when he invented the first fully-electric television. An earlier version of a television had been invented by John Logie Bird, but it was mechanical used a rotating disk, was limited to ten frames per second, and had a thirty line image. Philo’s television’s system used his invention of an image dissector, which was a scanning electric tube that converted images into electromagnetic waves that were transmitted from one end of his room to the other where there was a receiver on which the image was displayed. The first transmission was a white line displayed against a dark background. Once he figured out that it worked, he filed a patent for his design. He continued to perfect this new system and finally gave his first demonstration to the press in September of 1928.
