jan 10, 1920 - League of Nations Created

Description:

The League of Nations was the first intergovernmental organization, which was created to promote international cooperation and to achieve international peace and security. It is often referred to as the predecessor of the United Nations. Its founding document was drafted during the peace negotiations after World War I. This document is made up of 26 articles and covered many aspects of the organization. Some of these aspects include the conditions for membership, the obligations of the members, mechanisms of a peaceful settlement of an argument between nations, and many other things. The start of the League of Nations marked a new era of international cooperation. By establishing a bond between nations, the League of Nations was the first to attempt at collective security, which means that any enemy to one country will become an enemy to them all. Although the document focused on conflict and dispute prevention and how to go about settling disputes peacefully, some of the articles referred to the role of the League in promoting international agreement and cooperation in areas such as health, drug trafficking, transit, freedom of communications, and human trafficking. Over the years, these efforts became increasingly important and valid, and in some cases paved the way for the creation of United Nations organizations, such as Specialized Agencies and UN Funds and Programs.
