Hurricane Andrew started off as a tropical wave from the coast of West Africa. The wind speeds got up to 165 mph. There was roughly 65 deaths. It hit florida and part of Luisiana and caused over 27.3 bilion dollars in damage.25,524 homes were destroyed and 101,241 others damaged. It was a category 5 hurricane. Hurricane andrew is one of the four category 5 hurricanes/ tropical cyclones to hit the US. It went down to a level four hurricane briefly but then went back to a level 5 It caused t ton of damage and kept on going up and back down in categories. Some oil platforms were completely demolished causing 500$ in debt. 187 million freshwater fish were killed in the hurricane. Hurricane andrew created about 28 different tronadoes on the golf coast. The reason why this is an important event is because of the category it was placed in and how much damage it created
