Description:

Elizabeth gave herself the title 'Supreme Governor of the Church'. This meant that she ruled the Church of England but, importantly, she was not 'head' of the church. this was intended to make herself appear less dictatorial and controlling, to make Catholics and Puritans more comfortable with it.
