The Hubble Space Telescope was launched in the 1990s, into low orbit around Earth and is still up there to this day. The Hubble Space Telescope is not the first telescope launched into space, but it is one of the largest. It was named after the astronomer, Edwin Hubble. The Hubble Space Telescope is the only space telescope that was designed to be maintained in space. It is repaired, upgraded, and items are all replaced in space by astronauts. The Hubble Space Telescope has been in service for more than 30 years as of 2020. It is expected to stay in space until the late 2030 or early 2040s. The telescope's orbit outside of the earth's atmosphere allows it to capture extremely high-quality images with substantially lower background light than a ground-based telescope could capture. The Hubble Space Telescope has captured a lot of pictures, and has furthermore advanced us in our mission to discover more about space, hence making this an important advancement in our space studies.
