jan 1, 1977 - 1977 - The Gleneagles Agreement
Description:
In the Gleneagles Agreement, in 1977, countries of the Commonwealth agreed to discourage sporting contact with South Africa. This agreement was approved by all of the member countries including New Zealand.
The Gleneagles agreement stated that countries would combat the evils of apartheid and for each government to decide in accordance with it law how it might deal with South Africa.
So because New Zealand did not have any laws stopping sports with South Africa it meant the government did not have to do anything.
