dec 22, 1976 - Tea Party Movement
Description:
The Tea Party emerged in 2009 and was a political movement that began in opposition to President Barack Obama's policies. This conservative party caused polarization in American politics in a variety of ways. First, it was an insurgent faction of the Republican party that was organized mostly through social media, blogs, and local meetings, which made the movement much more difficult for party elites to control creating dissension amongst conservatives. Many liberals also felt that the rhetoric being spread by the party was harmful. The party was marked by its anti-establishment stance which rejected the traditional political parties and called for a more populist approach to politics. This approach was embraced by conservatives but opposed by liberals who saw it as harmful to democratic norms.
