jun 17, 1914 - 4 MAIN Causes of WW1
Description:
1. Militarism: belief that the only way a nation can get respect/prestige is by having an arms race.
2. Alliances: small regional conflicts turn into a world war because of alliances. Conflict started with Austria-Hungary and Serbia, but other countries were pulled in because of alliances.
3. Imperialism: powerful countries exploiting weaker countries. Competition for colonies. Conflicting claims.
4. Nationalism: idea that all your country’s decisions are always right. Unquestioned loyalty and willing to go along with anything.
At first the US believed itself to be the “city on the hill.” Felt superior for staying neutral. However, they sell weapons to both sides.
