jan 22, 1903 - Children’s March
Description:
Mary Harris “Mother” Jones (a school teacher who saw the effects of child labor firsthand) organized this march to try to bring attention to child labor. It consisted of 80 injured children. They marched through NY and ended at president Roosevelt's house. Gave the issue more visibility and started a national conversation. Around this time, 20% of boys worked and 10% of girls. Child labor ends around 1920.
