apr 22, 1793 - Washington issues Neutrality Proclamation
Description:
Despite the dismay of Jefferson, and much to Hamilton's happiness, Washington declared neutrality in the French Revolution.
Note: Citizen Edmond Genet went there thinking that Washington didn't represent the American people, and thought America would rebel for France.
It didn't work. He was later replaced.
Interesting technicalities:
France may have been aided by neutrality due to the fact that it 1) prevented the British from blockading and allowed American food to go to France
2) America didn't have to really honor it cuz France never really pushed them to
