mar 30, 1867 - Reconstruction Act

Description:

This act was the Radical Republicans biggest victory. Johnson vetoed it, but they were able to override it.

It divided the South into 5 military zones and sent the Union army there indefinitely (military rule).

Each zone was headed by a Union general. The South was being treated as a conquered nation. The army would intervene to enforce new policies.
