The Lemon Grove incident is known as the first national case that won educational segregation in 1931. A group of Mexican American families in the border town of San Diego fought an uphill battle of separated but equal policies. From a long segregation of educational schools, 70 children had been obligated to attend a poorly constructed two-room school; A barn was situated within the Mexican Community neglected by the principal.
