may 27, 1937 - Golden Gate Bridge Opens

Description:

1937 – May 27:

The Golden Bridge was edified to connect the Marin to San Francisco counties. It was one of the tallest suspension bridges ever built upon its completion. Its construction began in January 1933 under the supervision of Josep B Strauss. Because of the location, many challenges were encountered, like running tides, frequent storms, and fog that made the edification difficult. A movable safety net, innovated by Mr. Strauss, was used. It saved a total of 19 men; however, a total of 11 death were counted over the four years of construction.
