April 15, 1850: The City of San Francisco was officially incorporated

In the midst of the Mexican-American war, the arrival of white Americans to the bay set a milestone for settling businesses and urban development because of the Gold Rush. On April 5, 1850, the legislature voted to incorporate San Francisco as a city. However, the official incorporation only happened ten days later, when the first city charter was enacted. California joined the union as a state less than six months later.
