In a post-September 11 world, the country was in deep turmoil and tension when it came to national security and immigration. With my father in the U.S. after leaving Mexico in 1999, my mother saw it best to travel with me as an infant in order to be with my father and finally introduce me to him for the first time. Unfortunately, because of some of the uncomfortable and discriminatory instances that my mother, unfortunately, went through in her short time here, she decided to move back to Mexico with the hope that my father would follow her soon.
