apr 23, 2010 - SB 1070 Arizona
Description:
SB 1070 was passed in 2010 to address illegal immigration and titled Support Our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act. This act allowed police officers to question people about their immigration status if they had "reasonable suspicion" that they were in the country undocumented. The law also made it a state crime to be in the country undocumented which brought a lot of fear and anxiety to Latinx immigrants. The title of this act expresses a positive connotation of maintaining safe neighborhoods, but the predatory behavior of having a suspicion that someone was undocumented caused tension and fear in immigrants.
