jan 1, 1942 - Bracero Program

Description:

The Bracero Program was a worker program between the U.S. and Mexico that brought Mexican laborers to work on temporary contracts. Bracero Program was active from 1942 to 1964. Latinos faced obstacles such as discrimination, exploitation, and poor living and working conditions. These obstacles can draw parallels to the systemic barriers and ongoing challenges for Latinos in the U.S. workforce such as unequal access to education, limited job opportunities, and labor exploitation. Braceros worked under strenous labor conditions, lived through in subpar working conditions under oppressive racialization as Latinos were othered and deeemed inferior to the white man.
