jul 10, 1945 - Potsdam conference

Description:

After Germany surrendered in May 1945 the big three met again in Potsdam
Roosevelt had died so new US president -Truman
-Britain also had new leader, Churchill replaced by Attlee
-New boundaries for poland were agreed, and it became confirmed that Germany and berlin would split into 4 zones
-however, the relations between the "big three" became alot more hostile at potsdam:
-Britain amf US were alarmed by Stalins actions in poland-- he was installing a communist government-
britain and USA felt this went against the Yalta agreement
-Truman became sus of USSR becoming so became less willing to compromise
Wanted to stop spread of communism, Atlee also became concerned.
-Allies disagreed about boundaries of their zones in Germany.
Stalin wanted to keep Germany weak but Truman feared this would make them vulnerable to soviet expansion.
