in 1862 Alexander Parkensine created a brand new material that is the founding father of nowadays plastic. This material was made of a mix of Chloroform and caster oil. this material was used mainly for small objects, such as jewelry, buttons, fountain pens, and brush handles small objects, such as jewelry, buttons, fountain pens, and brush handles. it was mostly used as a substitute for ivory at the time and was cheap compared to ivory at the time. it sadly never took off as well due to poor advertising and a lack of ned at the time
