jan 1, 1822 - Michael Faraday demonstrates the principle of an electric motor

Description:

In 1822, Michael faraday, world renowned scientist in electromagnetism demonstrated the principle for the electric motor, using an extremely simple device he showed the power of an electric motor. The simplicity of it was one of the best things about it, showing true importance in the first surviving electric motor. This self-taught English scientist pieced together discoveries by Hans Christiansen Orsted and André-Marie Ampère showing that there were electric currents surging through wires that were surrounded by a magnetic field and that this field was in effect a cylinder of magnetism around the wire. He isolated a magnetic pole and found that the field would move in a circle around the wire. With a small mercury bath, he transferred electrical energy into mechanical energy.
