aug 6, 1965 - Voting Rights Act of 1965
Description:
Federal act that prohibited states from preventing African Amer. from voting under any circumstance. Helped pass through the Bloody Sunday incident, a march for voting rights turned violent.
Different from previous because Jim Crow laws had barred some African Americans from voting, such as the literacy tests. This prevented that.
Represented somewhat of an increase in federal government power over the states.
