Sybil Ludington, a 16-year old girl, became a heroine of the American Revolutionary War when she rode her horse, Star, 40 miles and rallying 400 men to stop the advance of the British beyond Danbury, CT. While not able to save the cache of the Continental army's medical supplies the act did force the British to retreat back to their landing position at Long Island Sound.
