Description:

The Fugitive Slave Act stated that when an escaped slave was found, it was the responsibility of the person who found them to return the slave to their master. This did not go well with the Northerners because, in a way, they were being forced to participate in slavery. This issue as well as what to do with runaway slaves led to the Civil War.
