Description:

-Mexican consul general in Chicago let the Mexican president know that the workers were not being treated fairly
-May, Mexico wanted to be reassured that their workers would be sent back to Mexico within 6 months
-June, Many Mexican workers contracts were violated and stranded in the city without food and knowing little to no English
-August, once some contract expired Dept. of agriculture extended contracts because of the need for agricultural workers
-Local agencies such as the Immigrants’ Protective League, Hull House, Henry Booth House, the Newberry Avenue Center, the Maxwell Street YMCA, Gads Hill Center, the University of Chicago Settlement House, and the South Chicago Community Center provided leisure activities and hospitality for the braceros
