In 1968, Cha-Cha Jimenez was arrested for… When Cha-Cha Jimenez was released from prison he had a new vision for the Young Lords. Being inspired by Malcolm X and Black Muslims, he wanted to create an organization similar to the Black Panther Party. Along with Ralph Rivera, they reorganized the gang, incorporated the women’s group and renamed the larger body to→ Young Lords Organization (YLO).
After renaming the Young Lords to YLO, they approached a pastor of a local church about using the basement as an office and for survival programs modeled after the Black Panther Party.
