Description:

The first protestant missionaries that came to Hawaii left Massachusetts in 1820. Before 1820 there was a Hawaiian man named Henry Opukaha'ia who wanted to spread Christianity throughout the islands. Henry was an orphan before he was picked up by a trading ship that was headed to Connecticut. He died before he could preach in Hawaii. Later in 1820, the first church in Hawaii was established by protestant missionaries. As of 2023 63% of the Hawaiian population is Christian.
