First unequal treaty signed between Korea
and a foreign power (Japan).
Forced Korea to open its ports for trading.
Description:
Japan created a situation (Unyo-ho incident) where it could make Korea yield to the treaty. They purposefully made a political situation after several unsuccessful attempts at sending envoys to established a treaty of friendship.
This was an attempt to displace Korea from China's suzerainty.
