Description:

Expectations were high on this offensive, but after a couple days the fighting became bogged down, and casualties quickly mounted.

Because of this, the whole French army on the Western front collapses in morale. Whole battalions mutiny, refusing to attack.

Robert Nivelle is then sacked, and replaced with Philipe Petain.
