jan 1, 1815 - Underground Railroad
Description:
Abolitionist Levi Coffin establishes the Underground Railroad in Indiana.
It was set up to help enslaved people from the South to escape to the free North or even British Canada. Along the way, "conductors" would hide them in private homes, churches and schoolhouses, so called "stations", "safe houses" or "depots".
