may 1, 1745 - In 1745, the French fortress of Louisbourg falls to the British for the first time
Description:
In May of 1745, Britain sent 4200 men and 90 ships to go and capture Louisbourg. The British came to a realization that Louisbourg had some problems. Louisbourg was not designed to deal with attacks from the land. They went to nearby hills and bombarded the town and fortress with cannon fire. After this, they laid siege to the fort. After six weeks, Louisbourg surrendered.
