Nixon realized that the building of nuclear weapons was very foolish. In 1972, he visited China and the Soviet Union. He was able to agreed to the SALT 1 Treaty which stated a limitation in the building of nuclear weapons. The visiting of China was also significant because Nixon was able to agree to open up for trading once again with China. Most importantly the U.S would allow China permission to join the U.N
