nov 13, 1956 - Supreme Court Declares Bus Segregation Unconstitutional
Description:
After the boycott of the Montgomery, Alabama bus system for more than a year by African Americans, the local bus company aimed to desegregate their buses in order to generate revenue again. The city and state, however, forced the segregation laws to stay in place. Browder v. Gayle convinced a Federal District Court in November of 1956 that the segregation of public buses should be illegal.
