北宋司馬光主編的編年體史書《資治通鑑》就是從這時開始。

453 BC時，韓趙魏安大世家聯手滅了勢力龐大的知氏，此時基本上晉國已經被這三家掌握。
到了403 BC，周天子正式冊封韓、趙、魏三家為諸侯，晉國至此被三家瓜分，西周封建制度進入「列國」時代。
