Both sides try to outflank each other to the North. This leads to the battle of Ypres. The allied forces cling on desperately and suffering heavy casualties to prevent a German breakthrough.Allied casualties estimated at 129,000 and German casualties estimated at 130,000. The battle ends in a stalemate. At the same time, both sides have now dig trenches to avoid heavy fire.
