Description:

Isabella and Ferdinand issued a set of rules to establish how the natives should be educated into being civilised Christians. They outlined that:
- Natives were to live in towns under a Spanish protector and pay taxes to the Spanish leaders
- They were to be taught about the Christian faith and baptised into it. They should give up their non-Christian beliefs
- They would be taught to speak, read and write Spanish
- They would be taught how to dress decently
