feb 10, 1965 - Voting Rights Act passed

Description:

This act outlawed measures such as literacy tests which were used to prevent blacks from voting. The bill was passed in part because the previous year 3 civil rights leaders had died trying to register voters in Mississippi. This was a huge victory for the black community.
