Description:

After the reunification of Germany, many Republics started resisting the control of the central power, therefore weakening it. Additionally, a failed coup by extreme communists, who were not favorable to Gorbachev's reformist ideas, weakened the leader even more. He resigned a few weeks later, allowing Yeltsin to come to power and dissolve the USSR on the 26th of December 1991. This essentially put an end to the cold war.
