nov 14, 1983 - Able Archer
Description:
The able Archer during 1983, was a military exercise that took place in November. This exercise was designed to simulate a response to a Soviet nuclear attack. It further involved a series of simulated scenarios, such as the deployment of nuclear weapons and the effect of communion systems. The effect that this military exercise had sparked serious concern from within the Soviet Union, as it was believed to be a cover for a real attack, it also lead to heightened tension between the two "super powers", finally with Soviet forces reportedly preparing for potential nuclear strikes.
Ultimately, the military exercise "The Able Archer" ended without any incidents yet it is considered to be a significant moment within the Cold War as it highlighted the danger of nuclear conflict between the United States and the Soviet Union.
