Description:

The United States commenced bilateral trade negotiations with Canada more than 30 years ago, resulting in the U.S.-Canada Free Trade Agreement. In 1991, Mexico joined in, forming the North American Free Trade Agreement. Under the NAFTA, tariffs were eliminated as well as all duties and quantitative restrictions, making it business trades over the three countries more convenient. Overall, NAFTA increased the competitiveness of the three countries in the global marketplace, allowed them to better compete with China and the European Union.
