jan 1, 1989 - Berlin Wall Falls
The Communist government of the German Democratic Republic built a concrete wall, AKA “Antifascistischer Schutzwall” or the Berlin Wall, between East and West Berlin to stop emigrants, also to prohibit escape form East Germany. On November 9, 1989, the head of the East German Communist Party announced that citizens of the GDR could cross the border freely. The Berlin Wall, which was once a symbol of enduring symbols of Cold War, collapsed, symbolizing the collapse of the Soviet bloc and European communism.
