dec 19, 1960 - December 19th: Cuba openly aligns itself with the Soviet Union and their policies.
Description:
On December 19th, 1960, Cuba announced their relationship with the USSR. Castro and his regime, who was the leader of Cuba at the time, became important allies of the Soviet Union. There were multiple reasons that this "partnership" was important, the major one being Cuba's proximity to the United States. That partnership could pose a major threat to the United States and it did end up doing just that with The Cuban Missile Crisis. The USSR ended up using Cuba as storage land for their weapons in exchange for large amounts of oil, food, and machinery. These allies would end up being the ones that caused many people stress and fear in the United States.
