当时已经有《活动摄影》和《活动摄影时代》两本杂志，但由于原著不详，只有这本《活动写真界》可以阅读当时日本电影界最古老的电影杂志。

它于 1909 年 6 月 25 日首次出版，由吉泽商店发行，一直持续到 1912 年初（明治 45/大正 1 年）左右。
