sep 1, 1304 - The Action at Earnside

Description:

In September 1304, during the Wars of Scottish Independence, there was a skirmish in Earnside. Although little much is known about it, it is notable since it was William Wallace's last battle that is recorded.

Even where it is is unknown. According to current records, it happened at "Yrenside". This is typically taken to mean "Earnside," which refers to a location along the banks of the River Earn. It has been argued, however, that it should be understood to mean "Ironside," which may refer to Ironside Hill in the Sidlaw Hills.

The payment of recompense for a horse lost during a fled from William Wallace beneath "Yrenside" is mentioned in English archives.

The Dundee Constable pursuing Wallace is also mentioned.
