nov 9, 1989 - Fall of the Berlin Wall
Description:
The Wall of Berlin was a wall that separated East and West Berlin. The wall was put up to separate the communist side of Berlin (East) and the rest of the city (West). During this period, the Cold War was starting to die out in Eastern Europe, leading the spokesman of East Berlin to allow the citizens to cross over to West Berlin due to a change in relations. Everyone flocked to the wall and joined in the celebration at the wall and crossed the borders for the first time in years. Over 2 million people rejoyced and explored the changes that happened to either side. While exploring, many people took to the wall with hammers and started to chip away at the border one chunk at a time. Though the sign of the newfound unity was originally on the 9th of November, the official unification of East and West Berlin was on October 3rd of the following year. One picture is of the citizens of either side on the way when it fell. The other is a soldier that helped build the wall, who found a tank and drove through it on its final days.
