jan 6, 1948 - Delay/Echo using Tape Machines

Description:

In the late 1940s and early 1950s producers and engineers created delay and echo effects using tape machines. Simply the signal would be routed to a separate tape recorder (from the one being used to record) or a mixing console. The slight delay that occurs between when the signal was originally played and when it finally came off the playback head provides a delayed signal back to the tape recorder or mixing console. The delay time can be adjusted by changing the speed of the tape machine used for the delay. Feedback or multiple echoes can be made by putting the tape delay back into the mixing console.
